EVALUATION

CONDUCT OF COMMON QUARTERLY/HALF - YEARLY/ANNUAL EXAMS

TFor any instructional impact diagnostic evaluation has to be an integral part of the teaching - learning process. When learning in adequacies are general then the class room correctives can be applied. When causes are non-educational other measures have to be adopted. Public Examinations exert an over whelming influence on our system of education. This is largely because examinations by and large measure achievement of students mainly by classification, certification and grading them. As a result the entire instructional programme has become examination oriented. Teachers are left with no option but prepare students to get success in the examination. The activities of the examination cell of this Directorate can be gone through in the following pages…

TIn addition to Quarterly, Half-yearly and Annual Examinations, Educational Institutions conduct mid-terminal tests and unit tests with a view to reduce the burden of students in the term end examinations. Due weightage is given to the mid terminal tests and the marks scored by the students are computed for their promotion to the next higher classes.

HIGHER SECONDARY PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS

PRACTICAL EXAMINATIONS

Conduct of Higher Secondary Practical Examination for pupil candidates in the first week of February. The Practical Examination will be conducted in all Higher Sec. Schools in Pondicherry and Karaikal Region. The concerned subject Teacher will act as internal Examiner. The Exam Cell of this Department will appoint external Examiner for the above Exam for each subject and the candidates will be examined based on Question Bank supplied by the Department. The Practical Exam is conducted for Maximum 50 marks (20 internal + 30 External) and a minimum of 40 marks has to be obtained for pass. Similarly Aural/Oral Test inn respect of language and English subjects will be conducted for all candidates for 20 marks (10 internal + 10 external). The procedure followed for Practical Exam will be followed for Aural/Oral Test also.

THEORY EXAMINATIONS

Conduct of Higher Sec. Theory Exam for all pupil candidates during 1st week of March. This Examination is being conducted at 25 Centres in Pondicherry and 5 Centres in Karaikal Region. Theory Minimum has been fixed for pass in Science subjects (viz. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology and Comp. Science). Out of 150 marks allotted for Theory Exam the candidate has to obtain a minimum of 30 marks for pass. The Board for appearing the Exam prescribes the following fee.

1. Practical involving subjects Rs. 225/- for all papers*
2. Non practical subjects Rs. 175/- for all papers*
3. Wiseman Higher Secondary School, Velrampet.

RESULTS

The results of Higher Sec. Exam will be published during 3rd week of May. This Examination is also conducted for Private candidates at the Centres notified by the Board in Pondicherry and Karaikal Region . The Department of Govt. Examinations, Chennai in this regard will issue notification. It consists of two categories namely H-failed candidates, HP- Direct Private candidates

In addition to the above, special Supplementary Examination will be conducted during June/July for candidates who have failed in Higher Secondary Examination during March session. Application for the above exam will be called for from the eligible candidates, consolidated and then sent to Department of Govt. Examinations, Chennai for further action. Specimen copy enclosed for ready reference.

OTHER FACILITIES OFFERED TO REGULAR & PRIVATE CANDIDATES

Other facilities available for both Regular and Private candidates are as detailed below:

Candidates who have got less mark/failed in the Public Exam can apply for the Xerox copy of answer scripts for all subjects. For obtaining the Xerox copy of answer scripts can be had from the Exam Cell, Directorate of School Education, Pondicherry.5, on payment of Rs.275/- in the form of demand draft per application. Separate application should be given for each subject. The applications so collected from candidates will be consolidated by Exam Cell and handed over to Directorate of Government Examination, Chennai for further action. The Xerox copy of answer scripts shall be despatched directly to the residence of the candidates within a fortnight. The candidates thereafter have to verify the marks given by the examiners with the help of subject Teacher of the respective school. If there is any doubt about the marks, the candidates have to apply again for Revaluation. The cost of Revaluation application is Rs.505/- Demand Draft should be taken from any Nationalized Bank favouring Director of Govt. Examination Chennai.6. A specimen application for the above is placed below for reference.

The exam cell carries out conduct of Common Quarterly/Half-yearly/Annual Examination for Standards XI and XII in all Government Higher Secondary Schools in Pondy and Karaikal Region. The common question papers for the above exam will be set based on the month war syllabus prepared and communicated by this department (copy enclosed) and will be supplied to schools by door delivery. The schedule for the Examination is furnished below.

The Public examination for Diploma in Teacher Education Exam (D.TEd Exam) is also conducted in the month of June/July by the Exam Cell. The center for the exam is DIET, Pondicherry.8. The students of DIET, Sri Sairam Educational Institute and Acharya Teacher Education Academy will be taking the Examination at the above centre.

Besides, conducting the above academic Exams, Exam Cell is also conducting the following Exams.

1. Conduct of Rastriya Indian Military College Entrance Examination

Besides, conducting the above academic Exams, Exam Cell is also conducting the following Exams.

2. Conduct of Staff Selection Commission Examination.

The Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi for various posts as Notified by the Commission, is conducting this Examination. The Question papers for the Examination will be received from SSC, New Delhi. The Directorate of School Education, Pondicherry will Co-ordinate the work relating to the conduct of Examination.

3. Issue of Duplicate Mark Sheets for Higher Sec.Exam.

Those students who have lost the Higher Sec.Exam Mark sheet can obtain Duplicate Mark sheet from the DGE, Chennai on payment of Rs.505/- Application form for the above purpose will be issued by the Exam Cell.

Students who seek admission to other Higher Sec.Schools has to obtain Countersignature of Joint Director in the Transfer Certificate Application in this regard will be issued by the Exam Cell.

Every year the Publication of Hr. Sec. Exam results, Result analysis will be done by Exam cell for providing the particulars of State pass percentage region wise, school-wise and particulars of Top rankers region wise to the Honorable Education minister so as to conduct a press meet for announcing the Top rankers.
